Markus Wiederkehr commented on JAMES-889:
-----------------------------------------
One use case would be an SMTP proxy that sits between an e-mail client and an
actual SMTP server.
The proxy could intercept messages as they are sent to the server and scan
and/or manipulate them. Scanning for viruses would be an example.

> Support for the IMAP protocol has been factored out into a separate product
> with an independent release cycle. There is some support for an effort to do
> something similar with SMTP, though the idea is a little controversial.
> This issues is intended to gather use cases, help to understand the problem
> domain, and generally brainstorm.
