GSOC[1] is go, and Apache involvement is confirmed [2]. It's a very cool programme but competition for places is expected to be high.
We have some cool ideas for projects here at James (with more on the way), including designing and implementing a distributed using Hadoop, using machine learning to intelligent filter mail, implementing additional SIEVE RFCs, integrating with RESTful NoSQL storage and adding "out-of-office" functionality.
