I did not try this, but you should be able to use nginx as a mail proxy server

Nginx can load the certificate format that letsencrypt and the rest of the
universe uses (except Java :) ) .
So all you have to do is
* setup letsencrypt to retrieve and renew certificates for your mail domains.
* use nginx listen for connections on those domains and proxy requests to
James. Nginx can also proxy JMAP ;) which is HTTP
* that's it
How you do the above depends on your deployment setup.
