I think it makes sense to build a TCK 
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technology_Compatibility_Kit  .
We could use that to drive the integration tests for all the underlying 
implementations. 
This is different than a performance test - which can test the performance with 
just a few use cases. 

I wonder if there are any TCK's out there for email protocols.
