Benoit Tellier commented on JAMES-3571:
---------------------------------------
This is due to a bad computation in the body size in case the line separators
are missing.
https://github.com/apache/james-project/pull/407 would fix this.
> S3 PUT fails for SMTP mail without body

> Project: James Server
> Issue Type: Bug
> Components: Blob
> Affects Versions: 3.6.0
> Environment: James: built from james-project-3.6.0 tag
> Blobstore: MinIO latest
> OS: Linux
> Reporter: Karsten Otto
> Priority: Major
> Time Spent: 10m
> Remaining Estimate: 0h

> When I send a mail via SMTP and provide only headers (no separator nor body,
> i.e. ending DATA with a . immediately after the headers), then the S3 PUT
> operation for the body fails with "400 Bad Request: null". Debug output shows
> that James provides a "Content-Length: -2", likely the cause of this error.
> This only happens since I upgraded to James built from the
> james-project-3.6.0 tag. A version built from master a month before accepted
> the mail and stored an empty blob (size 0) in S3.
> Admittedly this is an edge case, but easily happens on copy+paste to an open
> SMTP connection.
