Hello James people,
Might you have not noticed it, we are currently having a very nice
contributor on Github proposing a Nett4 ugrade, and doing an awesome job
doing so [1].
While the amount of code impacted can seem limited (few thousant lines,
hundred files) the change is significant, and likely invole some risks.
The current Netty 3 layer, as old as it is, is now pretty much battle
tested. I'm expecting multiple fixes for the Netty 4 implementation to
come in the coming months.
I am totaly devoted to get this contribution in. I will perform QA test
with most major clients and will conduct a perfmance test campaign
against it, but I am unsure we can get all the possible bugs before
merging it.
Of course I invite other contributors to also take a look at it.
However, I will feel more confident releasing a 3.7.0 release now (we
are IMO quitte stable on master now), then merge Netty4 on master and
thus have some time to refine it before a potential 3.8.0, thus
minimizing risks of such a change to our users.
