Hello Otto.
Very good question, thanks for asking!
You can perfectly use Cassandra 4 with James 3.8.x, it actually work great.
Cassandra 3 and Cassandra 4 are mostly similar. Some mild differences
can be noticed in some table settings (some compaction strategies
present in Cassandra 4 are not in Cassandra 3 and vice versa), and can
easily be worked around by creating tables before starting James.
Of course, I would recommend using Cassandra 4, which ships a new
storage engine, better ranged operations, better defaults, etc...

Hi all,
I just noticed that the James master branch uses the Cassandra 4
docker image, while the 3.8.x branch still uses Cassandra 3. I was
wondering, can I use Cassandra 4 with 3.8.x as well, or is there a
reason why I should not do this?
Cheers,
