I'm able to use it from the command line:

# cd /usr/local/james-server
# java -cp lib/mail_1_3.jar:build/classes 
org.apache.james.security.DigestUtil -alg SHA stuff
Hash is: Xu44OBOItvMO/dXFxvBn2/Ms

but it refuses to work via the RemoteManager. :/
