SMTP Auth from non localhost

Hi,   I have the SMTP Auth turned on in my configuration. This works for e-Mails send from an e-Mail Client that is installed on the same machine as James (so it comes from localhost). If I try it from an e-Mail Client via Internet, sending an e-Mail is rejected as not authenticated, even though the client sends user and passwort for smtp authentification.   What goes wrong?   Thx Rudolf
