As I recall attachments are base64 encoded to text, so altering it (by JAMES) would have made it unuseable when decoding back to its original form.

James does nothing to attachments, unless you want to strip them. This is most likely a problem with saving of the word doc from Outlook (or whatever) and Word redoing the TOC because it feels like it. I'm much more inclined to blame Word et al.
