stop or pause the services which access the database, back it up and then
resume the previously stopped or paused services using a scheduler.

The later option is not pretty, as it requires taking James services such as
SMTP and POP3 offline for a period. In this light, you could read this as if
you need 24*7 James service you need a 24*7 database. Make your choice
wisely.
