Sure, I changed account settings to TLS(and tried SSL also). 
I added supporting more security algorithms (as described in 
http://wiki.apache.org/james/UsingSSL).
After that, kmail still freeze, but MS outlook 2003 conects to james server and 
I see error in logs:

Connection has been shutdown: javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: bad 
handshake record MAC
