Be very careful about taking things out of context. The context of this message seems to refer to James' role in their integrated suite. James itself is 100% fully functioning mail transport agent, it will correctly handle all SMTP mail. In point of fact James has no concept of "incoming" or "outgoing" it is all just "mail needing routed" from the point of view of James.
