characters, so
the proposed change would not put us out of compliance with the RFC.
There are also character set constraints [1] which suggest that the
correct solution to this issue is to force the use of ASCII and not
use UTF-8.
Adding "character set latin1" in the db field definitions would make it.
At least in mysql.
