I wanted to let the list know what I have found out since my last post:

I upgraded to version 2.3rc2 and no more error messages and email works (the outgoing email problem went away)

I tried to use the spool file from 2.2 in my 2.3rc2 installation, but the error messages came back (I think while trying to process the mail in the /var folder)

It appears from my perspective that 2.3rc2 is a better version to run with than 2.2, I started with 2.2 because the website says james 2.2 is the best available version. http://james.apache.org/download.cgi
Thanks

BTW, i will be back;)

I see these message in the dns log for james-2.2.0

08/09/06 11:11:09 ERROR dnsserver: Couldn't resolve IP address for host
localhost.
08/09/06 11:11:28 INFO dnsserver: Couldn't resolve MX records for domain
localhost.
(it goes on, you get the idea)

On the console, I can ping localhost, but how can I configure localhost MX
records? Do I need to do a full DNS server (i.e. BIND) in order to use james?

Currently, I have james configured to use external DNS servers (I don't have a
DNS server installed). I am seeing these errors and was wondering how to
resolve the error.

Another symptom of an underlying issue is that some email seems to be stuck in the outgoing folder.
Thanks for any pointers. I have a long weekend of trying to figure this out.
Anytime I thing about sendmail configuration, I keep plugging at james.

BTW, I am a java/ajax/hibernate/spring/tapestry/java developer and am
considering building a UI for james....

My DNS section:
     <servers>
        <!--Enter ip address of your DNS server, one IP address per server -->
        <!-- element. -->
<server>192.204.202.27</server> </servers>

In my outgoing folder, stuff like this (not very readible)
