Stefano, I took your suggestion about the port 25 being closed and moved the smtp port from 25 to 1555 and now I am able to access it local and remotely by name and ip address. I'm still curious why I could connect through unix and not windows for port 25 but I guess I can talk to our network guys for that. Thank you for your help and sorry to have taken your time.
