Not sure if this will help you, but can you please try something? I am
kinda curious myself...
Please add the following flag when you start James...
-Dfile.encoding=UTF-8 \
So in phoenix.sh (assuming that's what you use to start James) try adding
file.encoding flag as follows:
RUN_CMD="$JAVA_HOME/bin/java $JVM_OPTS \
$DEBUG \
-Djava.util.logging.config.file=./logging.properties \
* -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8 \*
-Djava.security.policy=jar:file:$PHOENIX_HOME/bin/phoenix-loader.jar!/META-INF/java.policy
\
$PHOENIX_JVM_OPTS \
-Dphoenix.home="$PHOENIX_HOME" \
-Djava.io.tmpdir="$PHOENIX_TMPDIR" \
-jar "$PHOENIX_HOME/bin/phoenix-loader.jar" $*"
