How do you expect ping to help you look for MX records for the domain part of the mail address?

Hi,
The ping was just to show that the names are "Unknown host".
Of course, you need MX records... but having unknown hosts let me think there is some tuning needed on DNS side.

Thx.

Hi Raju,

I am not sure if I can follow Eric's argumentation here. Pinging
mavs.uta.edu or mail.exchangelabs.com is not in any way going to solve
your problem.

mavs.uta.edu does indeed have an MX record:
1851571482.mail.exchangelabs.com and that mail server is reachable on
port 25. Unless someone has changed that mail server's configuration
between your first mail and my response, I have no clue where the error
message "501 5.5.4 Invalid domain name" originates from. The mentioned
mail server is at least now accepting mails for t...@mavs.uta.edu when
talking SMTP to it directly:

< 250 2.1.5 Recipient OK

Hello

Is there any way that we could avoid this? Or is this something which
has to
be resolved by the University by having the MX records for mavs.uta.edu?

Thank you.

Hi,

Seems like your domains can not be resolved on the Internet:
ping mavs.uta.edu
ping: cannot resolve mavs.uta.edu: Unknown host
ping mail.exchangelabs.com
ping: cannot resolve mail.exchangelabs.com: Unknown host

James relies on MX records he finds in the DNS servers.

Tks
