Just to add a little color to my update, so BEA Oracle is a bit of a yawn because it's been so long in coming and so obvious that BEA had no independent future, particularly after Oracle shot at them.
The Sun MySQL thing is intriguing though. I do think that the timing of both announcements on same day is pretty interesting, seems like the DB abstraction layer is completely historical now and commoditized into pure open source, whereas theres a shift in weight from the application server layer up to the middleware layer in terms of where it's "happening". I think we should be looking at Open Source SOA Oriented Operating System Solutions or OSSOAOSS. =) Miko --- In [email protected], "Gervas Douglas" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > To quote Miko's recent Status Update on Facebook: "Miko Matsumura is > amazed by sun buying mysql and yawning at oracle buying bea." > > What implications do you think this has for SOA and the availability of > SOA-orientated (SOAOS??) solutions? > > Gervas >
