"Friendlier" is debatable. A services interface to such components 
(not services) is of questionable value, IMO. Plus, such an approach 
tends to skew the focus as evidenced by this thread.

Agreed. I submit that those are not "services" but are instead 
technical implementation components. Calling everything a service is 
problmatic.
