Is there a resource on the internet that compares ESBs? Furthermore, does anyone know of a resource that normalizes the terminology used by different ESBs? It's difficult to evaluate who is 'smoke and mirrors' and 'who is sticking to the standard'. If other ESBs are supposed to be an implementation of the JSR208 (JBI Standard), then are they using similar terms? Or does the similarity stop at the abstracted view that JBI proposes?
More specifically, as an example, SM uses the following terms, what do the other ESBs call these terms? Service Engine Binding Component Service Unit Service Assembly servicemix.xml jbi.xml As a long shot, what from an SM implementation could I plug into, for example, acqualogic or sonic? If this is possible, what kind of changes would it require. Seems to me most ESBs provide some sort of standalone server. It is my understanding that the SM standalone is merely for unit testing. In the real world I would deploy this onto a JEE server like JBOSS, Spring, Weblogic. Theoretically, is acqualogic supposed to be able to run independantly of weblogic? How about IBMs ESB (running on websphere)? And the final question, when can I tell my client that SM will be ready for production?
