ServiceMix and BPEL work just fine together. The Loan Broker example is an example of using BPEL. There is some info about it here: http://www.servicemix.org/site/loan-broker-example.html But this might be a bit outdated. There is much more up-to-date info on the Loan Broker example in the LogicBlaze FUSE product which is free and open source and available from http://www.logicblaze.com/.
