I'm using the m2eclipse plugin for Eclipse, which will read the pom to download and configure dependencies. If your pom.xml is configured correctly, you don't need to do any changes. The plugin is still in an early stage (v0.0.9) but gives you basic maven support in Eclipse such as configuring dependencies.
