So if you have configured it in your settings.xml, it should work.
And if you build from sources the 3.1 version, make sure you use

Yes, my apologies for the typo. Below is an example of what I'm describing:
$ pwd
/Users/bsnyder/
$ cd ~/src/servicemix/trunk/archetypes
$ mvn clean install
(I have the ServiceMix source code checked out in my ~/src directory.)
This will compile, package and install all the archetypes in the local
Maven repo.
