No, that's why ServiceMix does not require it, although other
containers may. If you use the maven plugin, it will generate
it, so you should not have to worry about it.
The only case where the jbi descriptor contain useful informations
is when you use SA connections to map an interface name
to a jbi endpoint (this is defined in the jbi spec).
Components may also read this file and find some informations,
but servicemix components don't do that currently.

should have been archive-wiretap-in.
Another question: is the jbi.xml file in the SU archive really
necessary? The application seems to keep on working correctly, even if
the jbi.xml files are not updated...
