One of the problem with maven and ServiceMix is that artifacts are not in public repository. Thus, they aren't downloaded automatically, especially when you start from scratch. You can try building ServiceMix from sources and then you will be able to use the archtypes. Another way is to make sure you have followed the following instructions:
