Take a look at the java console in IE. You'll probably find that there is a
SecurityException. Applets can only connect back to the same server they
came from. You may even get a SecurityException if you try to connect to an
IP address when the applet came from a URL with a domain name and vice
versa. You may need to specify the codebase in the <applet> tag. It would be
helpful if you mentioned the version of IE.
