The ORACLE JDBC thin driver is a type 4 driver (java) so it will work. If
you install Oracle for linux, it should have install the JDBC driver for
you. If not, just go back and install it using the installer.
Alternatively, you can download the JDBC driver from ORACLE for the unix
platform. Java is Java, right.

Did you tried the standard Oracle JDBC drivers ( thin, not OCI! )?
I am sure it will work fine - the protocol is the same.
