It's an interesting point James.

Spec is very clear as far as I can see, you shouldn't do keep-alives
without chunking.

This is especially pertinent to the servlet environment since the
engine never knows what the crazy programmer is going to do (you can't
buffer forever!) or even if the loon has read the documentation on
engine limitations.

Aside from that - I haven't come across many browsers that do
HTTP/1.1 at all (let alone persistent connections).

Although now I expect we'll get a deluge of replies about this so
anyone who wants to... send to me only. It's not really list
interest.
