Thanks everyone for your help, well it looks like I will have to go to the
server after all, since I need to support version 3 browsers, but thanks

        True, forms can't span layers -- however, you can populate a form
that you will
        wind up submitting based on data in forms that exist in other
layers... Gets a
        bit complicated, and may not be worth the hassle, but it can be
done.
