No you are not correct. One of the beta versions (#2?) of JDK 1.2 did indeed
contain the servlet classes, but they were pulled back out in the following
beta, and are not present in the production release. You will need JSDK 2.0
available to install Apache JServ.
As for JDK 1.2 (a.k.a Java2), several Apache JServ users have reported success
using the servlet engine on that platform. You can find more information in
the FAQ-O-MATIC that is available on the project web site at
http://java.apache.org
