Sorry, I have no answer, just a (possibly) related problem. In my
case the client was setting the user-agent to "xyz" and most of
the time, the servlet was reading "xyz". Occasionally, the servlet
would read "Java 1.1.7" as the user-agent and run into an
io-exception shortly thereafter. Obviously we stopped relying on
the user-agent setting for anything since it wasn't working 100%.
But since this problem seems similar to yours, I thought I'd mention it.
