It's a bit difficult to do since it depends completly on what you
want to do.

An electronic shop test would only test the suitability of a product
for an electronioc shop.

Also there are so many parts involved (as you point out) that it is
difficult to narrow things down if you take this appoach.

JMeter from the Apache group is an excellent (and free) tool for
hammering out HTTP requests. It's what I use for measuring Paperclips
performance.
