Without touching on the particular question, I wanted to note that
browsers allow disabling or refusing cookies. Within the last few weeks, an
online bookstore received a number of calls ( and no doubt lost some
orders ) because order totals were showing zero. The apparent cause was a
silent dependence on cookies. Dissatisfied customers and a rewrite was the
result in this case.
