a quick mail to someone who works in the benchmarking area got the following reply: "this is a tricky one. Yes benchmarks do exist. eg specweb, webbench etc. as to being good thats a different matter. most of the workloads for these benchmarks were developed b4 cgi became so popular. ie specweb uses a static html workload, specweb99 uses cgi (perl) as part of its work load. http://www.zdnet.com/zdbop/webbench/webbench.html webbench is also another. there a few proprietry ones, a good search engine should yield 4 or 5 anyway."
