Joe -
I, like everyone else using JWS, is on pins and needles about JWS and
it's future. News like this causes yet another evaluation of ecommerce
architecture. I'm not interested in waiting around for Java-One for an
answer to where JWS is evolving; I need the roadmap NOW - ASAP. Many
of us have bet projects around JWS as the core engine; I need to know
NOW not a number of weeks later what the plan is. If it's
open-sourcing the code, please just don't throw it over the fence; it
does take some committment and organization to get going. If it's a
business deal with other companies it would be best to announce this
now for my decision will be LONG made by your convention date; possibly
with luck all our projects will be off JWS by the time your official
announcement is made.
Here, I work on a industry level web site for the North American
Railroads with many projects all running or due to run around JWS. At
this point it will take some REAL CONVINCING to simply keep me using
JWS. So whatever entity is taking JWS over should realize the massive
migration of customers using this technology to something else; not to
mention the influence these important sites have on other projects.
Specifically, without your better communication, and in a timely
fashion, I would STRONGLY recommend everyone to find solutions
elsewhere. How about a JWS roadmap posting by monday morning? Not
having a roadmap simply tells me how UNINTERESTED SUN IS with this
technology and DISRESPECTFULL to its customers - an even worse fate
than "pre-announcing" all the wonderfull things you're going to do with
JWS on some grand-stand at Java One. Personally, I'm in the lab all
day... and night so I'd rather have the information NOW; I don't have
the time (nor the stomach) to wait for your convention.
Respectfully,
Jim Strasenburgh
