hi giacomo -

        what jdk are you running? the "stopserver" program
        attempts to bind to a service via rmi in order to
        shutdown the server gracefully. the type of problems
        your describing can occur if your running on top of
        a jvm which does not support, or incompletely supports,
        rmi.

        can you consider running this on jdk 1.2.x if your
        aren't already?
