I did not read about servlet chaining, but the idea you described seems to be
interesting.

And if about Servlet vs JSP: the two technologies must not exclude each other
but rather co-exist. I think the main advantage of JSP is easier tutning of
HTML output and separation of HTML and data-access code. You con also imagine
that you can generate JSP page dynamically and then it is compiled by
server(everything at runtime), but servlet must be already compiled.
