Right. You still have not answered my question as to why it cannot be =
serviced by the current Servlet mailing list.
I'm very familiar with PKI, and it goes beyonf just JDBC, so you still
fall short of convincing me.
I live in the PNW, Washington state is all PKI, Canadian Feds are PKI,
chaining down to the provinces doing PKI, which is very complex from a
trust and revocation / management standpoint.
Saying that is like saying username/password is just specific to
databases, but hey what about file services, JCIFs, MOM, Queues ... PKI
is WAY beyond JDBC, which is just one of many layers that would use that
service. I personally like the separation of authentication, AC,
resource useage, etc. It IS one of the reasons why ISO requested the
SQL group not to reproduce full blown authentication and has been
encouraging the use of external auth services for products such as a
database.
So ...(sitting here still unconvinced by just an explanation of terms)
... I still don't see whay having the same topics on yet another list
would be helpful ... at least not until the traffic on this list is so
big it can be split. You weren't talking about splitting this list, but
it sounds like that's what you are proposing. I'm not saying the list
shouldn't be split at some point, but why now, and why on those bounds
you have described? If I were looking for PKI - JAVA - Servlets info I'd
look for a list with that title (not JDBC) or post to this list.
Besides I'm wondering how many lists the Jons and Davids can be on *g*

This list will also host in depth information about the security issues
associated with java, servlets and JDBC including:
- Servlet to Applet encryption tunneling
- Integration of 128+ bit encryption using various algorithms
- Integration of Authentication from private and commercial vendors such as,
Entrust (PKI), Verisign(digital Certs),
- Security Dynamics(Certs), Network Associates(PGP, Certs) and others.
- Integration of Servlets with firewalls(Check Point API, etc.)
