Sam,

Use the HTTP "Referer" header. This does not work across all
browsers/scenarios, therefore many apps simply append a REFERRER parameter
to any URLs that require one and use that instead of misspelled "Referer".
The value of the parameter is set to whatever the application deems
appropriate.
