It's a lot less work to just load the JavaMail classes and have it send the
mail for you (by using whatever SMTP host you configure).  This is exactly
like what you do with most EMAIL clients - you appoint an agent (the
SMTP server) who does your message sending for you, and it's the agent's
problem to physically deliver the mail, do the retries, and all the other
stuff of the SMTP protocol.
