Actually, I found Charles idea quite neat!
We have a problem with users walking away from their computers in the
middle of a session, coming back and submitting information that is
contextual to their session. We of course report to them that they have
to log in again, but they get frustrated that they've typed in all sorts
of information that has now been "lost". By sending them to a login page
when their session times out, they won't be able to enter information on a
stale page...
