Where to find information about FACTORIES OBJECTS??

hi experts!!

         I am developing with Servlet/JDBC and I am trying to create a
Factory Object that could create all the instances of my Database.
        I have a problem with the instances of connections because I
don�t know if the Client has failed and the Connection Objct is free.
