Hi,

I find Chan, Lee and Kramer's "The Java Class Libraries, second edition, vol
1" and the Java 2 Supplement very very useful.  The two books cover the java
io, lang, math, net, text and util classes, but not the specialist classes
(Swing, JSDK, etc).

Perhaps not the complete answer you want, but I find them a good starting
point.
