Yes do as Spencer suggests. Make sure you override the init(). For instance, add
this:
private static String question; // add another instance variable
/**
* <p>Initialize the servlet. This is called once when the
* servlet is loaded. It is guaranteed to complete before any
* requests are made to the servlet
*
* @param cfg Servlet configuration information
*/
public void init(ServletConfig cfg)
throws ServletException
{
super.init(cfg); // always!
// Get initialization parameter
question = getInitParameter ("question");
}
One question for you before you move on, why are you putting this in the
properties.servlet? I can not see the advantage to this. If you want to change to
another voting subject, you
will have to change the init servlets.properties. It seems like alot of work.
