JVM does not die.....

Hi All   RH Linux 5.2 / Apache 1.3.6/ JServ 1.0/Blackdown JDK1.1.6_v5   After running for a long period("top" is showing 149:18 under TIME against the "java" process), when I restarted/stop/kill  the Apache Server , the old "java process"is not getting killed(or can I say new JServ process is not getting started?)   Any hints or suggestions ?     TIA, -pradeep
