Sounds like you're not setting the cookies Max-Age/
Expires attributes. If you don't, the default behaviour
is for the user-agent to discard the cookie 'when the
users session ends' which typically means when the
browser is quit ... which is the behaviour you're
getting.
Adding,
someCookie.setMaxAge(60*60*24*28)
will give the cookie a 28 day lifetime.
