Subject: Help with sessions and browsers

I have a serious problem that I am wondering if someone could help with.

When a user logs into our site, and attempts to edit a record, we create an
entry in a database table
to soft "lock" the record. Here is the problem: If the person closes the
browser, without using our
programmed mechanism to exit the application, those inserted locks stay
where they are. I was
hoping there was some way (based on the session) to know when the user has
closed out, or left.
I know in ASP there is Session_OnEnd, but I cannot find anything like that
in Java. I tried an
HttpSessionBindingListener, it was bound fine at login, but did not unbind
when the user closed
the browser.

Any ideas?
