This month's Java Report has such an article in the Architect's Corner. Also, there is a very good article on www.servletcentral.com that discusses such an architecture using Java reflectio, the article is called, "Playing it smart with Servlets."

I can't believe it. We finally agree on something :) LOL We've built our
'Versital (tm)' system exactly like that, feature-packed to accomodate
'true
application' requirements. Although we have found that using multiple entry
points (multiple servlets for the same application) can have important
advantages in exceptional cases. Although in that context, the importance
of
different entry points is directly related to the way those entry points
are
mapped in a web server document tree.
