I would second that thought from Craig.

Having gone thru the pain of changing the logic from ony_cookie_based to
cookie_or_rewrite_based. If you can design your system to be open to
whatever session tracking mechanism to be used, it will help you on the
long run. Otherwise, later changes involve changing your static files (or
templates) as well as the servlet code doing the generation of rewritten
URLs.
